Pacific Calling Partnership meeting - tues 20 March 6.00pm

Would you like to join a partnership of indivuals and organisations that are bringing the messages of our low-lying island neighbours about the need for urgent action on climate change

Come along to our next meeting where you can hear in more detail about everyone's efforts so far and help to improve planning for the projects that are coming up.
It will be at 6.00pm at the Edmund Rice Centre 1 Floor 9 Alexandra Avenue Croydon NSW
on Tuesday 20th March
Only if you can do it easily, please bring a small plate of finger food to share (with finger food there is no washing up!!!)

And now for a taste of the Exciting News

  • Eco-Youth skills exchange
    • The Good Samaritan sisters, a founding member of our partnership are making the running with this project and there are already lots of exciting developments.
    • The plan as it stands is to take a group of young eco-leaders from the Australian mainland and the Torres Strait to spend a couple of weeks in Kiribati. There they will be involved in a program with young I-Kiribati eco-leaders learning from each other, developing leadership and preparing 'something which they will decide on eg a song, a workshop a????' to take to the NGO gathering that takes place alongside the annual UN Framework Convention on Climate Change at Bali in December. This regional opportunity for Oceania will be a fantastic opportunity for the young people to begin to learn how to work their way around the complexity of UN negotiations. Bali is the closest place these negotiations take place for a long time. It would be difficult for them to take place in Australia as we haven't ratified Kyoto. It is important to have Pacific Island outlooks put forward at the framework convention as decisions are made here about

  • Media
    • The Sydney Morning Herald is sending Nick Galvin to Kiribati to write a feature article on Kiribati (and a travelogue!)
    • The Epoch Times published a full article on Pacific Calling based on our Just Comment

    • Jill doing an interview with the Catholic Weekly next week
  • Education Kits ready and going out

    • Sale of the  kits is continuing at a steady pace and when all are sold proceeds will cover the cost of the DVD component of the kits
    •  Development of a primary school kit ( working on funding submission for this with Marisa Brattoni )
  •   Letter Writing Network
    • We have sent out a suggested draft for the fourth letter to our network. We are keen to build up the numbers who are writing letters so please consider taking this on if you are not already doing so and PLEASE encourage any one you think might be interested to contact us and join the network.
